Like the nineteen other recreation councils in Harford County, we are a tax-exempt Maryland corporation and have been determined by the I.R.S. to be a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. We receive grants from the city of Aberdeen, contributions from community businesses, and registration fees from program participants that help offset operating expenses.
We are not an agency or department of Harford County Government but work with Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation staff members in providing recreational programs and organizing special events. Our board members serve at the pleasure of the Aberdeen City Commissioners and have oversight responsibility for recreational programs in our jurisdiction; we also advise the City Commissioners on park matters and represent the city in park-related capital budget hearings at the county-level.
